The Backlog Episode 7 (Day 45): Resident Evil: Revelations 2

UPDATE: Since the “Bonus Stream” Cougarmint has given me a copy of her game updated with some bug fixes and much smaller. She alsoasked me to link this new version so that anyone who wants to try her “Hello world” project for themselves can. I am including the link in this update. For more information on the game, continue to the original post.

Personally, I have personally downloaded and run the zip file through VirusTotal. I have also unzipped and run the files themselves through Norton Antivirus, Malwarebyte’s AntiMalware, Hitman Pro, and Windows Defender. Everything has come back clean. HOWEVER, as with any download from the internet, I recommend you scan it yourself as well if you choose to take it.

Hello and sorry for how long it took to post this. It’s been a crazy week overall, and ended with no exception. We did get to play on time, but it was late enough after I just went to bed, and then yesterday became a complete run-around. Being the tech-guy of the family after certain events can really teach you what time means.

BUT I digress… Friday was once again a back-log day, meaning it was time to play something I had in my library that I had yet to play and was sitting on a system I am currently not playing. It was the Xbone’s turn, and the game was Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Now, I don’t actually own the full game for this one. Rather Capcom decided instead of releasing a demo like they did the first game (which sold me to pick that up for the PC, I might add) they made the sequel episodic and released the first episode for free. I picked this up on a whim after playing the demo for part one on the WiiU and REALLY liking it, it wound up in my backlog. I had expected this to be like that demo and finishable in an hour/hour and a half, but boy was I wrong! Our run Friday only got half-way through the free offering. Capcom has been impressing me a lot more as of late…

…at least for that quality. The game itself was descent, but didn’t really stand out from it’s predecessor outside of both missions involving two characters now, one who is armed to the teeth, and the other carrying specific things needed to unlock certain passages or open certain crates.  In co-op, you and another player would each take a character requiring co-operation to get through each part of the campaign. But if you play on your own, you are now required to keep track of whichever one you are currently not controlling so the they do not die on you… in short, the single player mode is an escort mission. But at least it’s an escort mission with a competent AI who won’t just use up everything you give them (or are carrying when you swap to the other as you need to for various points in the game), which makes a vast improvement to Resident Evil 5.

What I played was overall very simple in structure with basically a single pathway to explore through the entire first campaign. There was some backtracking, but it was basically hand-holding you the entire way with the characters themselves noting when you had to do this. There were a few puzzles as well, which filled out the time very well, but nothing that required you to think so much as look around. But still, I did enjoy my time overall, and I will likely come back to finish the episodes. BUT I must put a caviate here. If I play the full game it will be doing this stuff over again, as like it’s predecessor, this title screams at me for mouse control, so whenever I get to it, the full game will be a PC purchase for me.

BUT Friday also included a bonus stream, as my friend Cougarmint had something she wanted to show off. She has completed a small project with RPG maker called Lucky 7… a little slot machine game. While I usually don’t enjoy the game-type (and as the video in my archive proves, I don’t exactly have the luck TO enjoy them), I simply could not resist the request as both this is her first completed project AND she did it using the engine/editor in a way it was NEVER intended to be used.

And she did so VERY effectively! The main game works exactly as you would expect with an option to choose how much you want to put in and a good randomizer for each of the three wheels. Lose and your bet gets added to the jackpot (a nice little touch there) leaving it as something to win back. You will also find yourself able to adjust the background and background music to fit your choices. But I did find one bug I hope she reads this to find. It is not anything major, but when you run out of money, the free spin (if you didn’t use it) also disappears. Other then that, this was flawless.

But then she added a debug mode which allows all control to go to the player, including what shows up. She left a challenge to “break” the game, and apparently there was a secret message if you pre-picked the right code for each of the windows, but I honestly couldn’t find it. Sad thing is, she told me what it was, so I kinda suck for missing that one. (Sorry, Cougarmint.)

Add to this her own personality oozing out of every bit of text for the game, and really it is a very good complete package. I will have to update this entry if she hosts the file anywhere so others can try it, but for a first project, this is really good… and for a game in general a very solid slot machine program.

New Experiences in Games I Love

43/100: Atlas Reactor

CHAPTER FIVE IS HERE! NEW LANCER IS HERE! NEW STUFF IS HERE! A little excited if you cannot tell. Yes Chapter Five of Season 3 is here, the last chapter, new things to do, and a new lancer is out too. Here are the new missions

  • Gain 5 Season Levels
  • Do 10,000 dmg, healing or absorb
  • Win 5 matches with a friend
  • Earn 2500 Flux
  • Earn 100 Prestige Points from ranked matches.

The challenge mission is perform 10 take downs with 5 different lancers. So total of 50 take downs all together. Then there is a new lancer named Isadora, and she is a battle hamster I swear.

Day 44/100: Fallout 4

We started off doing some missions with the Brotherhood, but finally I ventured into Nuka World, the only DLC that I have not played yet, and lets say when people said it was hard, they meant it was HARD!!! You start off with a gauntlet of turrents blasting your butthole into space, then a maze full of booby traps, fire, grenades, things shooting you, rats attacking you, and if you survive all that, you have to fight some crazy raider in a power armor that is surrounded my electricity and its rigged. But hey you can win by shooting him with a water gun. How cute right?

Day 45/100: Rift

Today I will venture into Rift, completing the last quest in Vostigar Peaks, Ankhet vs Crucia, here it is a doosy, will probably die a few times, should make a bet of it, then will partake into classic leveling, no Instant Adventures, or power leveling in dungeons, just classic quest, revisiting lore and adventures in Rift. Later in the evening will do dungeons and Raids with guild members.

Day 42 almost half way there…

Day 42/100: ArcheAge

ArcheAge a game I have not played much since launch, but so glad I am finally able to play this game again and stream it! YAY! Soooooo……What is ArcheAge? ArcheAge is a sandbox MMORPG. The game is zoneless, and open world PVP based. Players can freely attack other players who are members of the other factions: East, West or Pirate.

The crafting system in ArcheAge is massive and intensive, and if you dare dabble into this, you better…or lets say YOU BEST PAY ATTENTION to the quest and information you find on it, because its really hard to wing it on your own, trust me, off and on played this game for three years now, and still do not know how to craft in this correctly.

There is also housing, farming and a criminal system. The skills are quite flexible, you select one type of class at start, then again at lvl 5 you pick the next set of skills and then lastly at lvl 10. Your damage is based off your gear.

KelariCuddles waterlogged ledger of Games

35/ 100: Atlas Reactor

This was a good yet sort of sad day for me with Atlas Reactor, so during the third season you can do loyality missions for all the lancers and get a special hyperbotic skin for the lancer after  you play 5 games with the character. Well on this day, it was my last lancer, Garrison. I had other missions that were play five games and then play two as a Frontliner which worked with playing as Garrison as I needed to play five matches with him and he is a frontliner. But now I am done….and there is no more trust skins to earn. Sad face. But Chapter five missions are right around the corner, a new lancer is coming out, more missions, and quest and things to do. I will now do the challenge of lvl 7 lancers, most of my lancers range from lvl 5-8, one is lvl 11. (Grem love <3) and I will  go up and down the list, til each is lvl 7, then move on to the next. Challenges, got to love them.

36/100: Fallout New Vegas

Sooooooo you can say on this day, I did things I did not want to do, like had to get into New Vegas but did not want to pay for the passport, so there is the King missions (bunch of Elvis impersonators gang, how cute and clever right?) and totally forgot going this route makes the NCR mad at you…like very mad. And that made Boone mad at me. NOT BOONE! Boone is the companion you want, he shoots things from far away, so they do not kill you, unless he picks a fight with a Deathclaw, which he has done before…and I have left him behind, running away like a mad person. KelariCuddles does not mess around with Deathclaws. Unless she has too.

37/100: Rift

This day I was very casual in gameplay, working on dimensions. What are dimensions? Think of them like personal houses for characters, the roleplayers love dimensions in Rift because we get to have homes for our characters that we can live in and play house in or make a hospital for when characters get injured, or create a cafe for people to go buy a cake at, so many options of what you can build. Sometimes it is frustrating and does make me want to flip a table, but still love dim building. But Rift was also running a Wardrobe contest, where you make the best fashionable outfit ever and you can win some awesome blossom prizes, like 15K credits to shop with! Oh my! Here was my submission:

Now unfortunately the past few days  I was very very ill and was not even able to leave bed to game, so these will be the days I did not get to do this awesome challenge. It sucks, but sometimes it happens, but I hope that all my other extra lifers out there played some awesome games in my honor.

The Backlog Episode 6 (day 38): Final Fantasy III (IV?…. and a Metroid 2 Report)

Yesterday was the 6th Friday of the 100 days of gaming, and with it, the 6th Backlog episode of the stream. Now for those who are new, to show some variety of the kinds of games ExtraLife 2017 could show the world, have decided every friday to take a break from the games I am trying to finish and try out something new on a system I have hooked up, but really isn’t getting any love right now. This time, the selection was to come from the downloaded content I have hanging around on the WiiU, and the dice decided to go classic, as the game of choice was the SNES release which many fans of the franchise would go to war to label one of the best games of all time: Final Fantasy III (or as we’ve come to understand it to really be, Final Fantasy VI).

Now, my own history with this franchise could best be described as spotty. Back as a little kid when the NES was he current console, I tried and enjoyed renting the Dragon Warrior titles and casually messing with the original Final Fantasy, but my tastes lead me to try a much more hard core RPG on the system, which would be the RPG I played with for years: Wizardry. It wouldn’t be till years later that I would try to get back to the original title, and I would abandon the franchise promptly when I lost my almost finished saved game to a faulty battery in the cart.

My next time playing a console RPG would actually be on the Sega Smash Pack for the PC when I discovered Phantasy Star 2, which I fell in love with and after devouring 2-4, I found myself opening up more to console-RPGs again, but Final Fantasy would yet disappoint me again, as I played 7 after it was downloadable on PSN via the PSP… and for the record my theory that something was off in emulation used to play turned out to be correct for all the weird behavior glitches I saw while playing. That was a game that really needed to be played on original hardware, no matter how official the download was.

But I saw the promise in the game, so when I saw this much loved classic on the virtual console, I picked it up… where it sat for years until last night.

So what did I think? Well, it’s Final Fantasy. The combat behavior in this game is exactly what you would expect. You and your opponents take up the upper portion of the screen with a display to let you select what you want to do and your party’s stats at the bottom. The only really special thing here is the time bar, which tells you how long you have to wait for each character to choose what they will do, during which the battle will continue above. How much it continues depends on you, as you will have the option of making the game wait to issue any further commands while you are in a menu, or be real-time.

As of for the story (which admittedly is usually a major driving force of an RPG title) it started with a bang. Right off the bat, you play as a team working for the Empire to recover an Esper, only for it to kill everyone but a girl who can use magic (no one knows how… the ability is supposed to no longer exist) and is wearing a brainwash device to keep completely in control. Instead it reacts to her and she passes out only to wake up later with the device removed and to be the immediate center of the plot, which seems incredibly eager to throw as many characters as it can at you before the real plot can begin. I will admit, I am intrigued at this, and will be interested in playing more later when I know I will be spending some quality time with this title.

But aside form that, we also have an update on Metroid 2: Return of Samus. Starting this week, I began playing the original Gameboy title while at the gym, and I gotta admit, I may have misjudged the game when I first tried. Back then, I only had a cart I couldn’t play (European release) and a ROM on my PC I could play with an old POS Gravis Gamepad Pro. Seriously, that rocker-switch was god-awful and I think it may have ruined the game, as finicky actions like how to use the spider ball I am now doing with ease! At this time, I have collected bombs, high jump boots, the varia suit, and said spider ball as well as many missile tanks and two energy tanks. I have also now killed my first too gamma metroids. This has also brought about the next earthquake, but I’m not ready to leave the area I’m in… I get the feeling there is a lot to collect still, and I want to try to get that first. This game will continue Tuesday with updates in the activity section since I’m playing at the gym at work.

Letsa Back track

Day 30/100: Guild Wars 2

Proceeded with leveling my human thief and introducing my friend to crafting but I frankly did not remember it, still in a daze about crafting in Guild Wars 2, at one point actually knew everything and how to do all the crafting, gathering all the materials and how to discover stuff, but guess that part of Guild Wars 2 has left me. Oh well none the less it was fun.

Day 31/100: Rift

This time for Rift it was a little more different than normal just playing and not playing, we roleplayed a Dungeons and Dragon style event, using Rift lore and the Guild lore, we went to a Storm Legion base, top secret base, and had to go through a gauntlet or grueling task, the first time, we have a room that was blocked off on all sides, but had to get out, one door way had a fan blade, the second spikes and third was a frozen creature. We decided to wrap a chain around the frozen creature and throw the chain into the fan and in succeeded and found a bunch of ledgers, maps and plans of the Storm Legion, and scaled up to the fortress, were we ended the event for the night, but it traveled over to Day 32.

Day 32/100: Rift

Day two of this Table Top Style of Rift, we proceeded with the story, entering the fortress and finding a very insanely charming but suicidal Ai, who sterilized us, decontaminated us, washed us, violated a few by putting them in medical clothing, and anyone who has been to the doctor that paper towel dress does not cover enough, to finally find the way out and lead to recusing someone who has been kidnapped for months.

Day 33/100: Elder Scrolls Online

Challenged myself, mostly prepared myself for future Extra Life event, did a 8 Hour Stream, with my Warden, but she did a variety of quest, most dabbling into the old Llodos virus that plagues the dark elves and apparently not me, some Nords wanting to learn Dark Elf culture with the fair trade of Nord culture, but hey most Nord culture lets be fair is drunken insanity, and they dressed them up like Easter baskets I swear.

Day 34/100: Fallout 4

Normally on Sundays I would be a Fallout 4 challenge but some streams were pushed by because of real life and Fallout was one of those, but today we launch the week off with Fallout 4, and see how many times I dont scream, sure you can count how many times I dont over do. Today plan to dabble in one of the DLCs, will it be the machinist? Far Harbor? Or Nuka World? Who knows, you will have to tune in to find out.

The Backlog Episode 5 (Day 31): New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Welcome back and sorry for the delay in writing, but yesterday was actually very packed. I had maybe an hour or so between getting home and running out again to meet with my brothers and FINALLY take the time to watch the Alien Covenant. (And if you are curious, I absolutely loved it… but I will admit straight up to being a VERY avid fan of the xenomorph and the main series of movies that comes with it. And in fact I am watching the extras as I write this this morning.) However, while I am only writing in the morning afterwards, I was able to use that time to get an admittedly shorter round of gaming for the 100 days in… which is perhaps a little fitting considering the game played is one almost every gamer in the world today is familiar with some version of.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the incarnation of 2D Super Mario Bros. games designed for play with the Nintendo Wii system, but outside of a graphic overhaul, very little has changed in the game. You will be greeted with a map not unlike we got in Super Mario Bros 3, complete with the ability to select powerups to equip (if collected) before starting a level, and the levels you will get are 2D platformers crafted with the detail we expect Nintendo to pull off… but for the most part this really is just another Mario game with new upgrades Mario can use. And outside of some new designs and everything moving with the music, it is just a really familiar experience for all of us.

I believe when the time comes to play this game, I will enjoy it, but I don’t find myself excited about it. It is just another fun event in my gaming future, but one of many.

Guild Wars 2

Day 29/100: Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 is a MMORPG, it is unique to the genre of MMO, the story line is directly effected by the player decisions, which is not normally something you see in MMOs, so yeah will say it is unique. They call it the ripple effect in gaming, typically something you see in a single player game like Fallout or Mass Effect not something so massive mmo world scale. They have an event style setting that replaces the basic quest system.

There are five playable races, each with a dynamic story within themselves, and then nine playable glasses, eight are with base game, one comes with Heart of Thorns. Player skills are based on the weapon you have equipped (which I find very cool that it changes whether you have a bow or dagger equipped.) Level cap is 80. But don’t worry they have a global level system, so some level 80 cant swoop in and kill everything before you get it, they are instantly nerfed down to the questing area level, allowing you the chance to kill something.

But the basis of the plot, each race has there own tie in to the overall plot of the game, but in Guild Wars there were some meanie head dragons that lived under the world and woke up and cause a lot of bad stuff and corruption, lets just say lots of the bad stuff and corruption still exist, and the races must save Tyria once again.

Skyrim has the best tomatoes

Day 28/100: Skyrim

Anyone who is anyone should know what Skyrim is, the game has only been remade what? 60 times already, but the game is well worth it, its an amazing game, has so much you can do in it. That is what keeps me to games, is how much can you do in it, dont want a game you beat in 2  hours, want something you can play again and again and again and its different each time you play it.

But those that do not know it is set 200 years after Oblivion, its the fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series, and it follows the character the Dragonborn aka body of a mortal soul of a dragon. But you start smack dab in the middle of a war. Now when I play Skyrim I love to wander and do as little quest as possible, now when a quest does arise I go and do them, but normally I like to play and wander and explore the vast world, love the lone adventurer feel of the game.

And that is also how I found out Skyrim has the best tomatoes, was once challenged to pick pocket people and put tomatoes in there pockets, did this and landed in jail four times, so apparently it is a crime….to put tomatoes in a guards pocket.

Back tracking, logging, going back, whatever you call it, lets go back some days

Day 24/100: Rift

On this day of Rift, which most Fridays I do Rift, I classic leveled, rolled a new character on the Defiant side, and leveling it only the classic way. SO only quest, no Instant Adventures, no dungeon runs unless everyone is the same level, no power leveling at all, going back and revisiting the lore and just how far leveling can get you. I am doing the same challenge with a dwarf character aka a Guardian, as the lore is different per faction. Then I did some Crafting Rifts and Chronicles before playing Dungeons with buddies farming up the last of achievements for Storm Legion.

Day 25/100: Atlas Reactor

This day had one goal in mind, and that goal was to finish the Season 3 Chapter 4 missions, had only two more to complete and completed it with participating in 50 take downs and 3 non death match games. I played the new game mode Lights Out, where it is like a Death match game only every four turns, the map goes dark or dim and the players on the opposite team cannot be seen, you are completely clueless as to there whereabouts and have to guess, but the same is for them, they have no idea where  you are. Big guessing game, and eventually the lights come back on, and then go back off.

Day 26/100: Fallout 4

When I play any of the Fallout games it is dubbed the No Screamie Streamie challenge, where I have to play the game and not spaz out or scream, normally I fail…badly. So many things can pop out and wreck you in these games, and anyone who has played, knows what I am talking about. And while I was running around dealing with Jack Cabot’s messed up family, I did okay, until I found a sleeping Deathclaw, the one I failed to kill, just turned around and left out of there like “NOPE” and went around the long way and found some children of atom cultist who were out trying to radiate me into piles of green goo….I thought those guys were friendly….these wanted to kill me so bad I have never been killed so bad….Then I stumbled into a Mirelurker town which is no surprise cause they are after me, no matter where I hide they find me. But hey only freaked out once!

Day 27/100: Neverwinter

Neverwinter is a free to play MMORPG, that submerges all of its players into the vast Dungeons and Dragon world. It has an action style combat system, with abilities to dodge out the dreaded red on the ground, and different abilities and ways to boost the abilities, the game is vast in its class system alone. First what is there to do? You have the regular leveling, then you have world events, world monsters/ dragons, campaigns running all day (event calender in the game) skirmishes, pvp, and dungeon. There is 10 playable races and 3 for purchase. There is 8 playable classes, which each branch off into its own two sub classes at level 30. They even created a system where the players can create roleplay style missions, some with advanced stories that allow you to deeply create and submerge into the world and story and some that is just survive a wave of undead. The options are endless on what to do this game, highly recommend it, and its cross platform, you can play it on console or PC.
